Seminary or Theological College?
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen." 2 Peter 3:18
A seminary is a theological school for pastors, evangelists, and missionaries. It usually lasts from 2 to 4 years. Some are recognized by the MEC (Ministry of Education) as higher education courses, while others are not (which is permitted by current legislation). The seminarian learns various subjects and acquires various experiences that will prepare him for the exercise of the ministry.
Theological College is recognized by the MEC. It lasts the same way, from 2 to 4 years. It is also taken by people who do not want to be pastors or evangelists/missionaries. Many do it to teach Sunday school, to take public exams, to have more theoretical foundation in preaching, or even as a second degree.
Many are unsure about which one to choose. The first thing to check is whether your city has both. If you only have one of the two, do the one that is closest to you. Knowledge will always be useful to you. If you want to pastor a church, it is better to go to seminary. Churches prefer ministers who follow their specific theology. To preach better, college is also useful. It will all depend on what your goal is. Think about this before you start.
There are also those who do specialization (6 months to 1 year), master's degrees (1 to 2 years) and doctorates (2 to 4 years). These work in the training of new pastors, workers, preachers, worshipers, evangelists, teachers, etc. Only those who have already completed seminary or theological college can take these courses.
If you are young and feel called to it, be sure to study theology. There are many good pastors and workers who did not take theological courses, but they are usually older people. In their generation, they began to evangelize soon after they were converted. If you are young and do not study theology, you run the risk of becoming embarrassed or afraid to preach the gospel over time.
If you do not have the financial means or time to study theology academically, you can take a basic theology course, which lasts from 6 months to 1 year. It is also very good. Be sure to watch our videos on Tik Tok and YouTube. In them you will learn more about Christian doctrine and the word of God, thus bringing repertoire and motivation to your life as a whole.
